Maryland Democrats challenge anonymous anti-Wes Moore account
Maryland Democrats have filed a complaint against an anonymous social media account called "NoMoore" that mocks Governor Wes Moore. The account is similar to the national pro-Trump account "Catturd." The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), a First Amendment advocacy group, has spoken out against the complaint. FIRE's Aaron Terr said that protecting anonymous speech about public officials is crucial for democracy. He emphasized that such speech has been a foundational part of American political discourse. NoMoore posts various content, including memes and graphics, criticizing Governor Moore. The Maryland Democratic Party argues that NoMoore's actions are like campaign activities and should follow election laws. In response, NoMoore stated that it will continue to support free speech in Maryland. Governor Moore is currently dealing with financial issues in the state, aiming to address a $3 billion deficit. Democrats accuse him of using misleading financial tactics from the previous Republican administration. Meanwhile, NoMoore continues to post content that questions Moore's tax proposals and decisions. The Maryland Board of Elections has confirmed that they are investigating the complaint. A spokesperson for the Democrats insists that transparency is necessary for groups opposing candidates, especially ahead of the 2026 elections.
