Masayoshi Son pledges $100 billion to invest in US artificial intelligence
Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank Group, has pledged $100 billion to invest in artificial intelligence and related technologies in the U.S. This commitment, made alongside President-elect Donald Trump, is double the $50 billion Son promised eight years ago. To fulfill this pledge, Son will need to raise funds through a combination of fundraising, debt, or selling parts of SoftBank's holdings. Currently, SoftBank has about $30 billion in cash and $142 billion in debt, making the investment challenging. Son's announcement comes as many CEOs are aligning with Trump. While he aims to create 100,000 jobs in four years, the tech sector's job creation is often limited, and SoftBank's own workforce is significantly smaller.
