Masked man releases gas on Manchester Metrolink trams

There have been several reports of a man in a mask releasing gas on Metrolink trams in Manchester. Passengers have described feeling dizzy and lightheaded after these incidents, which occurred on March 20 and March 22. Witnesses say the man boarded the tram wearing a gas mask over a blue face mask. They reported hearing a hissing noise and smelling a strong gas odor. The substance is believed to be butane gas. One passenger recalled the fear on board when the man released the gas. She felt a headache and dizziness and got off the tram to report the incident to the police. Another person described how passengers panicked and moved away from the man. In a social media post, a different passenger shared a similar experience. They mentioned being overwhelmed by the strong smell of gas and nearly losing consciousness. After calling emergency services, they were quarantined for four hours but reported feeling alright afterward. Greater Manchester Police and Transport for Greater Manchester have been asked for comments regarding these situations.
