Massachusetts attorney pleads guilty to smuggling contraband

A Massachusetts attorney, Theresa Marie DiJoseph, pleaded guilty to smuggling marijuana-soaked papers into a Rhode Island detention center. She was part of a conspiracy with three others to bring contraband to the facility. DiJoseph, 51, had a personal relationship with an inmate and used attorney visiting rooms to meet him. During a visit in December 2023, officers found 10 discolored papers that tested positive for controlled substances. She faces charges for possession with intent to distribute, conspiracy, and providing a prohibited object to an inmate. DiJoseph also admitted to lying to the FBI. Sentencing is set for June 12.
