Massachusetts customers face significant heating cost increases
Massachusetts customers will receive a $50 credit on their electric bills in April, announced Governor Maura Healey. This credit is part of a $125 million effort to ease the burden of rising energy costs this heating season. Heating costs are expected to rise significantly compared to last year, with natural gas prices up 24% and electricity up 6%. The state’s Department of Public Utilities has ordered a 5% reduction in natural gas bills, saving customers an estimated $95 million. Governor Healey aims to expand energy discounts to middle-class families, building on existing support for low-income households and seniors. Future changes will depend on negotiations between utilities and the Department of Public Utilities.
