Massachusetts man arrested after three-hour standoff

A man in Massachusetts was arrested after a violent confrontation that led to a three-hour standoff at an apartment complex on Wednesday. Douglas Chin, 29, is a resident of that building and has several outstanding arrest warrants, including multiple assault charges. The incident began around 6:45 p.m. when Chelsea police received reports of trouble in the hallway. When officers arrived, they found Chin but he retreated back into his apartment and refused to follow police orders. Police believed he may have been armed with a knife. Chin became increasingly aggressive, barricading himself in his unit and making threats. To ensure the safety of residents, police evacuated people from the floor and called in a crisis negotiator. After three hours of attempts to communicate with Chin, police decided to get help from the Massachusetts State Police Tactical Team to enter the apartment. At approximately 10:20 p.m., the tactical team forced their way in and arrested Chin. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being booked at the Chelsea Police Headquarters.
