A man from Massachusetts was arrested for driving under the influence after driving the wrong way on an Interstate 84 on-ramp in Farmington. The incident happened early Saturday morning when state police received an alert about a vehicle going the wrong way. Troop H in Hartford was informed of the situation around 4:56 a.m. A detection system alerted them to a red Hyundai Elantra heading west on the eastbound side of I-84. Troopers arrived at the area but could not find the car immediately. A few minutes later, they spotted the Hyundai backing down an exit connector and stopped the vehicle. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Alex Caiza-Apugllon from Chicopee, showed signs of intoxication. He admitted to driving the wrong way while looking at a map on his phone but denied drinking. Caiza-Apugllon also informed the troopers that he did not have a driver’s license. After performing field sobriety tests, which he failed, he was arrested. He faces several charges, including DUI, reckless driving, and driving without a license. He was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 28.
