Massachusetts woman charged for tossing drugs into jail

A woman has been charged for allegedly throwing drugs over the wall of a New Bedford jail for her boyfriend. Authorities say Brittany Hanley was caught planning the act with the inmate. Over the past week, contraband was discovered at the Ash Street Jail during two separate incidents. First, a security staff member found a package containing 15 Suboxone strips in the jail courtyard. The following day, the maintenance team discovered another package on the roof, which contained 69 Suboxone strips and 15 grams of crack cocaine. Law enforcement linked the drugs to Hanley and the inmate she is dating. They observed her driving around the jail in a rented vehicle while on a recorded phone call with the inmate. Hanley was searching for the best spot to toss the drugs over the wall. When stopped by officials, Hanley admitted to buying 40 Suboxone strips and planned to throw them over. The drugs and suspected fentanyl were found in her possession. Hanley now faces charges, including possession with intent to distribute. She is set to appear in court on Wednesday. The inmate involved will be placed under an administrative separation order as a result of this incident.
