Matt Baker highlights farmers' concerns over inheritance tax changes
Matt Baker, host of Countryfile, addressed the issue of farmers' inheritance tax during an appearance on ITV's This Morning. He was promoting his new show, Our Dream Farm with Matt Baker, but the conversation quickly shifted to a pressing issue for farmers. Since 1984, farmers and owners of agricultural land have enjoyed exemptions from inheritance tax due to tax reliefs. However, starting in 2026, the newly elected Labour government plans to end these reliefs for estates worth over £1 million. Instead, farmers will receive limited tax reliefs. This announcement has upset many in the farming community, prompting public figures like Jeremy Clarkson to voice their concerns. When host Ben Shephard asked Baker for his thoughts on the legislation, he expressed strong support for farmers and valued their heritage. However, he was reluctant to share more details. He simply stated, "That's all I can say at the moment. It's very difficult."
