Matt Gaetz announces he will not return to Congress next year

Former Congressman Matt Gaetz announced he will not return to Congress next year after resigning from his seat. He withdrew his nomination to be Donald Trump's attorney general and stated he will continue his political involvement from a different position. Gaetz resigned last Wednesday, coinciding with Trump's announcement of his nomination. His resignation occurred as the House Ethics Committee was preparing to release a report on allegations against him, which he has denied. With Gaetz out of Congress, the Ethics Committee is currently deadlocked on releasing its findings. Gaetz may pursue other political opportunities in Florida, especially as Senator Marco Rubio is expected to leave his seat.
