Matt Gaetz withdraws as attorney general pick and will not return to Congress

Matt Gaetz has withdrawn from consideration for U.S. attorney general and announced he will not return to Congress. He cited personal goals and family priorities, stating he will continue to support Donald Trump from a different position. Gaetz faced significant opposition for the attorney general role, including from fellow Republicans, amid allegations of sexual misconduct. He resigned from Congress last week after being nominated by Trump. Trump has since nominated Pam Bondi for the attorney general position. Bondi previously defended Trump during his impeachment trial and is expected to face less opposition than Gaetz.
