Matt Murdock faces mystery with failing powers
In the new Marvel series, "Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell," Matt Murdock faces a challenging time. His powers are fading, and he has just 72 hours to solve a complex mystery. The story is set in a dark future where an older Murdock has stepped away from his superhero life. However, a catastrophic event restores some of his abilities, pushing him back into action. Artist Steve McNiven and writer Charles Soule are collaborating once again after several years. They have previously worked on popular stories like "Death of Wolverine" and "Old Man Logan." McNiven and Soule discussed their excitement about creating a new tale involving Matt Murdock, a character they both find compelling. Soule described how he had the idea for this story for some time. He sought to explore Daredevil's character further, believing he offers endless storytelling potential. McNiven noted that elements from past stories do influence this new tale, but it stands apart as its own unique narrative. The series dips into Matt's religious background, a crucial part of his character. Soule emphasized that Matt's faith drives many of his decisions throughout the story. Murdock starts the story in his 60s, running an outreach center while staying away from the superhero life. However, a dirty bomb in Hell's Kitchen forces him back into action, but he faces the challenge of quickly solving the mystery before his powers fade again. McNiven has focused on illustrating Matt's older, frailer self while also showcasing his strength. The design emphasizes the complexity of an older hero trying to step back into a role that demands physical prowess. The series promises appearances from familiar characters, but with new twists. "Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell" is set to be published by Marvel Comics on April 2.
