Matt Steinberg improves pitching mechanics for St. Charles East
Matt Steinberg is a senior pitcher at St. Charles East, and he is preparing for a big season. After a strong offseason of training, he has improved his pitching mechanics. This work has led to higher velocity and better control on the mound. Steinberg had a tough time during his sophomore year when he tore his ACL. After recovering, he returned to play varsity baseball last spring. In the summer, he helped his team win a state championship, which attracted attention from college coaches. St. Charles East’s pitching coach, Mark Foulkes, sees a change in Steinberg this year. He has slowed down his delivery and is more confident. Coach Derek Sutor notes how hard Steinberg has worked to bounce back from his injury. Steinberg has already caught the eye of Tim Stoddard, a pitching coach at North Central College. He visited the campus in the fall and received an offer to play there. Steinberg uses a powerful fastball and a unique change-up that he has developed since childhood. He will be part of a strong pitching rotation for St. Charles East, alongside fellow pitchers Joey Arend and Nathan Beers. Steinberg is excited about the team's success and hopes to earn a state trophy this year. The team aims to prove their worth after winning the summer state tournament.
