Maulana Abdul Haq Sani has been appointed as the new emir of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) following the death of his father, Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani. His selection was made by consensus during a Central Council meeting on March 16, 2025. The leadership position became vacant after Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq was killed in a suicide bombing at their mosque on February 28. The meeting also addressed concerns over the safety of religious scholars and called for action against the assassins of Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq. In addition to Maulana Abdul Haq's appointment, the meeting named Mufti Habibur Rahman Darkhwasti as patron-in-chief and Maulana Khuzaima Sami as central information secretary. Participants expressed worries about the worsening security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
