Daltonganj: Exams for first-year MBBS students at Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) have started after a five-month delay. The Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) is working to resolve the delays in the MBBS academic schedule. The exams were originally set for October 2024 but are now taking place in March 2025. About 100 students from the 2023 batch are participating in this six-day exam period, which began on March 18. Dr. Dewalraju Ravi Shankar, a faculty member in the biochemistry department, noted that the National Medical Commission has strict timelines for exams and results. However, NPU has experienced significant delays. To help students keep up, the university plans to start second-year classes right after the first-year exams end. Dr. Shankar mentioned that they will cover at least 30 percent of the second-year syllabus immediately. In a new move, the university has introduced the home Centre concept, allowing students to take exams at their own college. This change aims to improve exam monitoring. Dr. P N Mahto, the principal of the medical college, explained that they will use CCTV to ensure exams are conducted fairly. To uphold exam integrity, students are not allowed to bring digital watches or mobile phones. A traditional clock has been installed in the exam hall for timekeeping.
