MCD to clean covered drains in South Delhi
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will now de-silt the covered portions of the Sunehri Pul and Kushak drains in South Delhi. This decision follows a meeting with the Delhi chief secretary, as the irrigation and flood control (I&FC) department lacks expertise in cleaning covered drains. The MCD plans to address the cleaning issue by cutting the covered section near Dayal Singh College. Additionally, it will issue an expression of interest within a week to find methods for desilting the Kushak drain. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) is overseeing multiple complaints about sewage in Delhi's drains, which has caused foul odors and waterlogging. The NGT emphasized the need for timely desilting to prevent issues during the upcoming monsoon season.
