MCG increases inspections on bulk waste generators compliance
Gurgaon is increasing efforts to ensure that bulk waste generators (BWGs) manage their waste properly. Since the online registration portal started last year, the number of registered BWGs has reached 2,544. The BWG monitoring cell plans to step up its inspections. Inspectors will conduct daily checks in their areas and issue fines for any violations. These actions are part of a new enforcement drive to improve waste management in the city. Balpreet Singh, the additional commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), has instructed officials to make sure inspectors do their jobs consistently. He emphasized the importance of following the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. Singh has asked that each team inspect at least six sites daily. He wants action taken without bias. Under the rules, BWGs must sort their waste into wet, dry, and hazardous categories and manage it accordingly. Wet waste can be turned into compost or biogas, while dry and hazardous waste should be sent to the right recyclers.
