McGregor seeks new evidence in Dublin civil rape appeal

irishmirror.ie

Conor McGregor is trying to introduce new evidence in his civil rape appeal case. His legal team plans to apply for this evidence to be considered, with a motion to be made in early May. The Dublin Court of Appeal explained that for the new evidence to be allowed, it must meet three requirements. The evidence must have existed during the original trial, it should likely have affected the case outcome, and it must be credible. Last November, a jury found McGregor liable for assaulting Nikita Hand in December 2018. Hand was awarded €250,000 in damages after a three-week trial. McGregor claims the encounter was consensual. Hand's lawyer, Ray Boland, is opposing McGregor's request for new evidence. Boland indicated that discussing the appeal may take around two days, and any new evidence can only be admitted under special conditions. McGregor’s lawyer, Remy Farrell, raised concerns that Boland's arguments would unnecessarily complicate the appeal process. Justice Seamus Noonan stated that they must first decide if the new evidence will be allowed before proceeding with the appeal. The court set deadlines for the new affidavits and responses. McGregor has already paid part of the damages awarded to Hand. She hopes her case encourages other assault victims to seek justice and speak out. The appeal is scheduled for May 2.
