McLaren's car meets new regulations, no modifications needed
Lando Norris, a driver for McLaren, has stated that the team will not need to make any changes to their car despite new rules about flexible wings for the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix. Norris is confident that McLaren’s car already meets the new standards, which is a relief after winning the recent Australian Grand Prix. He mentioned that the new tests were not aimed at McLaren but rather at other teams that may have been pushing the limits of wing flexibility. Norris believes that McLaren's performance has been solid, saying even if the new rules had been enforced during the last race, they would have still been compliant. The topic of flexible wings has been controversial, particularly since accusations from Red Bull last season. The faster a car can go on straightaways without losing downforce in corners, the better performance teams can achieve. New tests were introduced after reviewing footage from the Australian race to improve compliance. Norris currently leads the championship for the first time in his career, but he feels no added pressure from this position. He stated that he is not focused on the championship yet and prefers to take it one race at a time. He briefly addressed McLaren's team orders during the rain-affected race in Australia, explaining that they had to avoid any risky situations while navigating through slower cars. He clarified that they were allowed to race each other after a brief pause in their battling for position. Despite having a strong performance in qualifying at Melbourne, Norris noted that he still feels the car's handling could improve. He described the difficulty in achieving the right feel at the apex of corners but remains confident that with their strong overall performance, they can still win races. Norris expressed his understanding that adapting to the car's characteristics is crucial for success.
