A measles alert has been issued for Sydney after a person with the disease arrived from Vietnam on a Jetstar flight. The individual was infectious when landing last week. The flight from Ho Chi Minh City arrived in Sydney at 11 AM on March 10. The person spent time in the arrivals terminal and baggage claim until 1 PM. They visited several locations afterward, including 169 Cafe in Randwick and Ooshman Maroubra in Maroubra. On March 13, the infected person went to Matraville Medical Complex and HealthSave Pharmacy. They returned to the medical complex twice more and also spent time in the emergency department waiting room at Prince of Wales Hospital. Health officials are advising anyone who was at these locations to watch for measles symptoms. These include fever, runny nose, sore eyes, and cough, followed by a red rash. Symptoms can appear up to 18 days after exposure. Authorities urge people to monitor their health until April 2. If symptoms develop, they should contact their doctor before going to a health facility. The measles vaccine can prevent the disease if given soon after exposure.
