Measles outbreak prompts vaccination push in New York
Health officials are alerting New Yorkers about a resurgence of measles in the state. Governor Kathy Hochul has urged residents to get vaccinated against the virus. This call comes after the confirmation of multiple new measles cases in New York. Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of vaccinations during a recent announcement. "Measles doesn’t belong in the 21st century, and it certainly doesn’t belong in New York," she said. The governor launched a new web portal to help residents access vaccines and public health information. Currently, there are at least four confirmed cases of measles in New York. Officials noted that these cases are unrelated to the ongoing outbreaks in Texas and New Mexico. Governor Hochul, along with State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald, is encouraging everyone to check their vaccination status. They stress that getting vaccinated is essential for community safety. The New York State Department of Health is working with local health departments to monitor measles cases and alert the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Health officials continue to recommend that all New Yorkers stay updated on their immunizations.
