The City of Medina, Ohio, has been recognized as a Tree City USA for the 43rd consecutive year. This honor comes from the Arbor Day Foundation, which promotes tree planting and care. Parks and Recreation Director Jansen Wehrley announced the designation, highlighting Medina's long-standing commitment to urban forestry. He noted that Medina has both a forestry department and a shade tree commission, which are necessary for receiving this title. For a city to achieve Tree City USA status, it must have a tree board, a tree ordinance, and allocate at least $2 per resident for tree care. The city must also host an Arbor Day celebration each year. This year's event is scheduled for April 25, in partnership with the Medina Noon Kiwanis Club. Additionally, Wehrley shared news about new playground equipment at Ken Cleveland Park. This project was funded by a donation from the Ken Cleveland Foundation. Installation was completed recently, and many children were eager to use the new equipment as soon as the safety tape was removed.
