Melbourne tradesman fights off armed thief in driveway

A tradie from Melbourne had an intense encounter when he found a man trying to steal tools from his ute in the driveway. Don Patron said the incident was caught on CCTV, which shows him dragging the would-be thief across his driveway. Patron described how adrenaline took over during the confrontation. He said, "It's either fight or flight and I chose flight to be honest," but quickly attacked the thief instead. The man allegedly pulled out a knife, but Patron was undeterred. He stated, “I just attacked him... we had a bit of a fight on the floor.” During the struggle, Patron sustained a head injury that required six stitches. He expressed his frustration about theft, recalling a previous incident where he lost $30,000 worth of tools. He emphasized, “This time I wasn't losing the tools, I'll tell you that much." Despite the scare, he is not worried about the thief returning. “I don't think he'll be back,” Patron said confidently.
