New plans could transform an area in Merseyside known for its stunning views. Wirral Council has submitted a proposal for a £30 million culture park at Woodside, near the ferry terminal in Birkenhead. This initiative aims to enhance the space for people arriving by ferry, linking key parts of the town. The council believes this project will act as an important gateway into Birkenhead and connect the significant regeneration projects already in progress. The park is expected to include an events space and a small grassy area, along with improved road access. Financial backing for the project includes £5 million from a new partnership led by Wirral Council and up to £25 million expected by 2031. The council has previously received nearly £20 million for creating a new ferry terminal and expanding the nearby U-boat museum into the "Battle of the Atlantic" attraction. Once completed, the waterfront area will be more friendly for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users. As part of the plan, the former Woodside market space will become green parkland. There will also be a children’s play area and reduced car parking in front of the ferry terminal. Local leaders hope this revitalized area will attract visitors and create a vibrant neighborhood with new homes, businesses, and cultural sites. Wirral Council leader Cllr Paul Stuart emphasized the importance of making the most of their scenic views across the Mersey. He noted this regeneration effort aims to generate thousands of new homes and jobs over the next two decades.
