Meta launches Movie Gen, a new AI model that creates video and audio clips
Meta has introduced a new AI model called Movie Gen, capable of generating realistic video and audio clips from user prompts. This model can create short videos, add background music, and sync sound effects, positioning it as a competitor to tools from OpenAI and others. Movie Gen can produce videos up to 16 seconds long and audio clips up to 45 seconds. Meta shared examples of its capabilities, including altering existing videos and creating new scenes. The company plans to collaborate with the entertainment industry but is unlikely to release the model for public use. Concerns about copyright and the use of AI-generated content in elections have been raised. Meta has stated it used a mix of licensed and publicly available datasets to develop Movie Gen, and it will integrate the tool into its products next year.
