Mexico tests app to help migrants alert contacts before potential U.S. detention
Mexico is testing a new cellphone app that allows migrants to alert relatives and consulates if they fear imminent detention by U.S. immigration authorities. This initiative aims to provide support amid concerns over potential mass deportations. The app functions like a panic button, sending notifications to selected contacts and the nearest Mexican consulate. It is currently undergoing small-scale testing and is expected to launch in January. In addition to the app, Mexico has increased consular staff and legal aid for migrants facing deportation. A 24-hour call center has also been established to assist migrants with their inquiries.
