Mexico's president denies Trump's claim of migration deal
Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum has denied President-elect Donald Trump's claim of a deal to stop migration to the U.S. She stated that Mexico's approach focuses on addressing migration while respecting human rights, not closing borders. Following a phone call with Trump, Sheinbaum emphasized that Mexico is managing migrant caravans within its territory. Trump later claimed that Mexico would immediately halt migration to the U.S., which Sheinbaum refuted, reiterating her country's strategy. In response to Trump's proposed tariffs on Mexico and Canada, Sheinbaum warned of retaliation. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held an emergency meeting with provincial leaders to discuss the tariff threat, aiming for a united response.
