Michael Kay disagrees with Trump theory on Bauer's status
Michael Kay, a broadcaster for the New York Yankees, has challenged a theory suggesting that former MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer is not signed by any team due to his support for Donald Trump. Bauer has been out of the major leagues since 2021 after serving a lengthy suspension for violating MLB’s policy on domestic violence and sexual assault. Although he was never criminally charged, he settled civil claims related to the allegations. Since his suspension, Bauer has been seeking to return to the league. Recently, some supporters, including Congressman Eric Burlison, claimed that teams are blackballing him because of his political views. However, Kay refuted this claim during his radio show, saying that many players in MLB are conservative and support Trump, suggesting that Bauer is making excuses for his current situation. Despite rumors connecting Bauer to the Yankees amid their injury struggles in the pitching rotation, insiders say the team is not interested in signing him. Team sources indicated that Bauer's reputation and past controversies would make it difficult for him to fit in, especially with team leaders like Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole, who has had a past disagreement with Bauer. Bauer played in Japan and Mexico after being released by the Los Angeles Dodgers in early 2023. However, the Yankees are reportedly focused on other options to strengthen their roster.
