Michigan reports first measles case of 2025
Michigan has confirmed its first measles case of 2025 in an adult from Oakland County. Health officials reported the case on March 14. This marks a new development as the state had no cases reported earlier this year. Measles symptoms typically appear 7 to 14 days after exposure and include high fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes. A rash may develop three to five days after initial symptoms. Those who suspect they have measles should contact a healthcare provider. The measles vaccine is highly effective, with two doses providing about 97% protection. Health officials emphasize the importance of vaccination to prevent outbreaks. In 2019, Michigan experienced a significant outbreak with 46 confirmed cases.
