Michigan State's Howard and Augustine win Big Ten honors
The Michigan State hockey team has received significant recognition as the Big Ten Conference announced its individual awards. Forward Isaac Howard was named the Big Ten Player of the Year. Goaltender Trey Augustine earned the title of Goaltender of the Year. Both athletes played key roles in leading the Spartans, who are currently ranked No. 1 with a record of 25-6-4. Howard stands out with 47 points this season, including 24 goals and 23 assists. He is considered a strong candidate for the Hobey Baker Award, awarded to the top college hockey player. Augustine has also been impressive this season. He has a 2.02 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. He is known for making crucial saves, including three shutouts this season. Last week, he had a standout performance in a semifinal match against Notre Dame. In addition to Howard and Augustine, defenseman Matt Basgall and forward Karsen Dorwart received accolades as well. Basgall has contributed six goals and 20 assists this season. Dorwart is also notable with 11 goals and 16 assists. Michigan State aims to defend its conference tournament title. The Spartans will face No. 9 Ohio State in the championship game on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Munn Ice Arena. They have already earned a share of the Big Ten regular-season title this year.
