Microsoft warns Chrome users of new malware threat
Microsoft has issued a warning for users of Google Chrome about a new type of malware called "StilachiRAT." This malware can steal sensitive information, including passwords, digital wallet data, and system information. The alert comes from Microsoft's Incident Response team, highlighting the dangers of this sophisticated attack. The StilachiRAT is designed to avoid detection and can collect data from users without their knowledge. It can scan for cryptocurrency wallet information and extract saved login credentials from Chrome. This threat poses a significant risk, as it can also move across networks and impersonate users during Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions. Microsoft is encouraging Chrome users to switch to its Edge browser as a way to protect themselves. The Edge browser offers features like SmartScreen, which helps identify and block harmful websites. Microsoft’s campaign to promote Edge has intensified, especially since Chrome remains the most widely used browser on Windows. In addition to switching browsers, Microsoft advises users to download software only from official sources and to use security features in Office 365. While Microsoft pushes for these changes, Chrome's popularity continues to challenge their efforts. Microsoft believes that their integrated security features will eventually encourage more users to adopt Edge.
