Migrant workers face challenges returning post-Holi celebrations

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Many migrants and workers are facing difficulties on their return journeys after celebrating Holi. This is especially true in the East Central Railway (ECR) area, where railway stations are packed with people. There has been a huge increase in demand for trains, particularly from Patna. At major railway stations like Patna Junction, Muzaffarpur, and Gaya, travelers are experiencing overcrowding. Long lines form as people wait for hours to board trains. Sunil Kumar, a migrant worker, shared his experience at Darbhanga station, describing the chaos and physical pushing as he tried to board a train to Punjab. Trains have also been delayed due to the high number of passengers, adding to travelers’ frustration. Facilities at the stations are lacking, with limited seating and unclean toilets making the experience more uncomfortable. The ECR is trying to manage the situation with additional trains and coaches, but resources are limited. A senior railway official mentioned that the surge in demand is challenging to handle. To help, special trains have been launched from various locations like Saharsa, Darbhanga, and Sitamarhi to accommodate the high volume of passengers.
