Mila Sneddon thrives post-cancer, meets Princess Kate
Mila Sneddon, now nine, captured the nation’s heart when she had to stay separate from her dad during the Covid-19 pandemic. Mila has leukemia and was undergoing chemotherapy, making her more vulnerable to the virus. To keep her safe, her dad, Scott, moved out of their home while he continued to work. They communicated only through the kitchen window, sharing “air hugs” until he could return. Reflecting on that tough period, Mila’s mother, Lynda, shared that they did what they thought was best for Mila's health. She expressed gratitude for technology, which allowed them to connect during isolation. Looking back, Lynda feels proud of how the family handled the challenges they faced. After some time, Scott was able to come back home once he was placed on furlough. This meant he could isolate and get the all-clear to reunite with Mila and Lynda. Scott recalled the joy of returning home after weeks of separation, expressing that it had been harder for Mila and Lynda. Mila, who is now in remission, continues to face some health challenges but is doing well at school. Living through lockdown has shaped her understanding of her condition. Lynda noted how the family is now more interconnected as a result of their experiences during the pandemic. Mila's older sister, Jodie, also dealt with difficulties during lockdown, particularly because she missed out on moments with friends while preparing for university. Now she feels she has caught up with those experiences. Mila has a special connection to the Princess of Wales, having met her during the pandemic when her photo was featured in a project by Kate. Mila expressed excitement about their friendship and cherishes the Christmas card she received from the princess last year. She enjoys spending time with friends and is happy to be back at school.
