Milma, the brand of the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation, is launching new products to compete better in the market. This includes baby food and a recent relaunch of its ice-cream line, featuring five popular flavours: vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, mango, and butterscotch. Under its "Repositioning Milma" campaign launched in 2023, the cooperative has improved packaging and pricing strategies. M. S. Mani, the chairperson, explained that a new milk powder plant in Malappuram will allow Milma to explore additional product opportunities. The plant can process up to 100,000 litres of milk daily. Milma aims to support farmers by offering the highest milk prices in Kerala. About 84% of Milma's sales revenue goes directly to dairy farmers. The cooperative sells 16.5 lakh litres of milk per day and procures 11.5 lakh litres. Additionally, Milma has received export licenses for its dark chocolate and clarified butter (ghee) to several countries, including the U.S. and Canada. Despite high demand for its ice-cream, distribution has been challenged by a lack of refrigeration. Regional unions are working on solutions to improve this situation.
