Minister criticizes lack of conscious-minded leaders in assemblies
A government minister has expressed concerns about the lack of people with strong social values in India's Parliament and state assemblies. HC Mahadevappa, the social welfare minister, spoke at an event in Mysuru. He noted that these important democratic bodies are losing their purpose and integrity. Mahadevappa referred to the Anubhava Mantapa, a 12th-century institution known for its inclusive debates. He said it included diverse voices and aimed to create an equal society. He believes that today's assemblies and Parliament lack similar quality leaders, which is crucial for fostering a society free from discrimination. During the event, he emphasized the need to promote the ideas of 12th-century reformers who worked for social equality. O L Nagabhushanswamy, the president of the Sharana Sahitya Parishath Sammelan, spoke about the importance of digitizing 25,000 pieces of Vachana literature. He mentioned that while 20,000 Vachanas have been published, 5,000 remain unpublished. The call was made for more public engagement with Vachanas, urging people to read and understand this important literature. Several prominent figures, including religious leaders and local politicians, attended the event.
