Minister urges fast farm tech transfer in India

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke on March 22, 2025, about the importance of quickly transferring new farming technologies from research labs to actual farms. He addressed graduates at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute's 63rd convocation. Mr. Chouhan highlighted the need for sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices, as well as for organic farming methods. He pointed out that adopting modern agricultural machinery and smart farming techniques is essential to tackle global challenges in agriculture. The Minister noted that India's agricultural growth rate is currently 5%. He credited this achievement to the collective efforts of farmers and researchers at IARI. He stated that innovations are crucial for improving the income of small and marginal farmers in the country. Chouhan encouraged students to focus on research, innovation, and entrepreneurship in agriculture to solve ongoing challenges. Several officials, including Ministers of State for Agriculture and the Director General of ICAR, were present at the event.
