Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited IIT Madras to support key technological projects. He focused on advancements in hyperloop technology, electric flying taxis, and homegrown microprocessors. Vaishnaw highlighted the energy and innovation he saw on campus and promised ongoing support for these initiatives. During his visit, Vaishnaw toured the Hyperloop Facility, accompanied by professors and researchers. The Railway Ministry previously allocated Rs 8.34 crore to help develop the hyperloop system. Vaishnaw also met with the team behind ePlane, a start-up working on India’s first flying electric taxi, and engaged with students working on the SHAKTI microprocessor project. Vaishnaw expressed excitement about the youth-driven innovations. He said, “We are providing only small help... This will lead us to good solutions for the country.” He emphasized the need for quality and safety in these projects. Prof. V. Kamakoti from IIT Madras stated that hyperloop technology represents the next generation of sustainable transport. The Hyperloop project has been developing for seven years, with a test facility in Chennai. Additionally, IIT Madras hosted Asia's first Global Hyperloop Competition with support from the Railway Ministry. TuTr Hyperloop, a student start-up, aims to bring the world’s first commercial hyperloop to India. The ePlane Company, founded in 2019, is working on electric vertical takeoff and landing technology. They are testing cargo aircraft for urban areas, aiming to revolutionize aerial transport in India. Meanwhile, the SHAKTI project focuses on building India's own microprocessors, with recent achievements like the 'IRIS' chip, which is useful for various applications. Vaishnaw also attended a showcase at the Centre for Innovation, where students presented 60 new technological projects. This center is one of India's largest student-run labs, helping students connect with industry and alumni.
