Minnesota parks to add ATV campground and improvements
Minnesota's state parks are getting several upgrades this year. These improvements include a unique campground specifically for all-terrain vehicle (ATV) riders, among other enhancements. A new campground for ATV riders will open this fall near Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park. The Pyrite Campground will offer 24 large sites with showers and an ATV wash station. It will connect to the Prospectors Trail, a network popular among ATV enthusiasts. William O’Brien State Park will also see significant upgrades. These changes aim to improve accessibility for visitors with disabilities. The park will feature a larger swimming beach and more accessible campsites. New restroom facilities and picnic shelters are also included in the renovations. Additionally, a new bridge will be built at Tettegouche State Park over the Baptism River. The previous bridge was washed away last year. The new bridge will be made from weather-resistant fiberglass and is expected to be completed by fall. Sibley State Park is redesigning its Lakeview Campground to create bigger sites and improve drainage. The number of sites will decrease from 71 to 41, with many offering electricity. The campground is set to reopen in mid-May. At Glendalough State Park, a new paved trail will connect Sunset Lake to the park entrance. This trail allows pedestrians and cyclists to avoid busy roads. A new trail center will open in June. Finally, starting this summer, more public libraries in Minnesota will offer free vehicle permits to state parks. The Department of Natural Resources plans to increase the number of available passes, making it easier for residents to enjoy outdoor spaces.
