Mirwaiz demands reversal of ban on Awami Action Committee
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the head of the Hurriyat and Kashmir's chief cleric, spoke out against the recent ban by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on his party, the Awami Action Committee (AAC). He called the decision harsh and uncalled for, urging the government to reconsider. During a Friday gathering in Srinagar, Mirwaiz emphasized that the accusations against the AAC of causing unrest are unfounded. He highlighted his father's commitment to peace and dialogue, pointing to his efforts to resolve conflicts and denounce violence during challenging times. He mentioned his father's principled stance, which included publicly condemning violence such as the kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed in 1989. Mirwaiz questioned whether an organization founded on such values could be seen as a threat to law and order. Since taking leadership at a young age, Mirwaiz has promoted dialogue and peaceful interactions. He noted that the involvement of AAC members in community support during emergencies proves their commitment to social well-being. In conclusion, Mirwaiz reiterated that the ban on the AAC should be revoked, as it contradicts the group's history of advocacy for peace and support for their communities.
