Missing hiker found alive after 50 days in northern British Columbia wilderness
A missing hiker, Sam Benastick, was found alive after 50 days in the wilderness of northern British Columbia. He was discovered by two men near Redfern-Keily Provincial Park and taken to the hospital for evaluation. Benastick had set out on a solo camping trip on October 7 and was expected back by October 17. After failing to return, his family reported him missing. He survived by camping near a creek and later built a shelter in a dry creek bed. Search efforts included police and rescue teams, but no signs of him were found until his rescue. Temperatures in the area had dropped below -20 C during his time missing.
