Missing South African girl linked to alleged kidnapping
A six-year-old girl named Joshlin Smith went missing in February 2024 in South Africa. Her disappearance has led to serious accusations against her mother, Kelly Smith, who is accused of planning her kidnapping. The case has attracted significant media attention. Joshlin is described as having a fair complexion and turquoise eyes. These features reportedly caught the interest of a local traditional healer, known as a sangoma. According to testimonies in court, Kelly discussed selling her child for about $1,100. Neighbors have claimed they saw Kelly packing Joshlin’s clothes before getting into a car with the sangoma, which then drove away. Kelly, her boyfriend Jacquen Appollis, and their friend Steveno van Rhyn face charges of human trafficking and kidnapping. They have all pleaded not guilty and remain in custody. A pastor testified that Kelly talked about selling her children. In addition, community members found clothing they believe belonged to Joshlin, some of which had blood on it. The prosecution argues that the suspects conspired to abduct and sell Joshlin. If convicted, they could face a life sentence. Meanwhile, police continue their search for Joshlin, stating they are focused on finding her alive. There may be further arrests related to the case, but exact details have not been confirmed.
