Miyazaki mangoes sell for Rs 10,000 each
Sumanbai Gaikwad, a farmer from Bhosi village in Telangana, has transformed her life through mango farming. Her journey began unexpectedly due to her son, Nandkishore Gaikwad. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Nandkishore returned home. He brought ten saplings of the Miyazaki mango, known as one of the world’s most expensive mangoes. Nandkishore imported the saplings from the Philippines, investing about Rs 6,500 for each plant. After two years of care, the trees started yielding fruit, producing 11 to 12 mangoes this season. On March 17, Sumanbai showcased her mangoes at the District Agriculture and Grain Festival 2025. The mangoes are gaining attention for their rich flavor, vibrant red color, and price, which can reach Rs 10,000 each. Nandkishore sought advice on pricing from a noted Miyazaki mango grower, which helped set the high price. The interest generated at the fair has encouraged other local farmers to consider growing this valuable crop. The event, held in Nanded, honored 29 innovative farmers for their sustainable practices. Miyazaki mangoes stand out due to their quality and high nutrient content. They contain important vitamins like C and A, which boost immunity and support good health. Their unique sweetness and balanced sugar content also make them popular in global markets.
