Mizo group seeks separate administration in Manipur

The Zo Reunification Organisation (Zoro) has requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to create a separate administration for ethnic Mizos in Manipur's hill areas. This appeal follows ongoing tensions between the Mizo community and the majority Meitei group. Zoro members met Shah in Aizawl and submitted a memorandum highlighting the challenges of coexistence after violence erupted on March 3, 2023. They also called for the reinstatement of the free movement regime between India and Myanmar, which was recently revoked. Additionally, Zoro urged Shah to stop plans for a fence along the India-Myanmar border, claiming it would infringe on indigenous rights and create difficulties for local communities.
