The Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) plans to inspect train operations on the new rail line in Mizoram from Bairabi to Sairang in May or June. This was discussed in a recent meeting of the Northeast Frontier Railways in Assam. The Union railways minister wants to attend the inspection, which is under the ministry of civil aviation. The Bairabi-Sairang railway project is nearly finished, with 95% of the work done. So far, Rs 7,714 crore has been spent out of the total estimated cost of Rs 8,215 crore. The line stretches 16.725 km and operations for freight and passenger trains began in August last year. Jonathan Lalremruata, a member of the consultative committee, suggested new services, including a railway reservation center and parcel management service. He also proposed starting Rajdhani Express services between Sairang station and Delhi. These ideas have been sent to the railway headquarters for approval. The Bairabi-Sairang railway will include four stations: Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang-Sihhmui. The project features 32 underground tunnels, 15 cut-and-cover tunnels, 55 major bridges, and 89 minor bridges, including six high bridges, the tallest of which is 114 meters. Some bridges will be built over main roads, while others will be constructed below.
