MLB, NPB satisfied with current player acquisition system
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred met with NPB's Sadayuki Sakakibara in Tokyo, stating he does not expect changes to the player acquisition agreement between Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball. Both leagues are satisfied with the current system. During recent exhibition games, NPB teams showcased strong performances, highlighting the quality of Japanese baseball. While some Japanese players are moving to the U.S. at younger ages, NPB officials do not plan to revise the existing posting system. The NPB players' union is seeking to reduce the nine-year wait for free agency and gain more control over player rights. However, negotiations with NPB continue without significant progress on these issues.
