MLS won't pause for international breaks, citing scheduling issues
Major League Soccer (MLS) continues to play during FIFA's international breaks, unlike many European leagues. MLS Commissioner Don Garber stated that pausing the league would negatively impact players, partners, and fans. MLS operates on a February to December schedule, making it difficult to accommodate international breaks. The league also has a busy calendar with multiple competitions, which complicates scheduling. Despite the ongoing games, many MLS players are called up for international duty. Over 80 players were selected for the March 2025 break, affecting several clubs, including Atlanta United and the Philadelphia Union.
