Mob burns truck in Karachi after motorcyclist death
An angry crowd set fire to a cement mixing truck in Karachi after it killed a motorcyclist early on Friday morning. Police reported that the truck struck two riders near Perfume Chowk around 1 AM. One rider died while the other was injured. Local residents were outraged and quickly destroyed the truck. The driver was arrested and is being investigated for reckless driving. Police also stated that the burning of the vehicle left it completely destroyed. In a separate incident, a motorcyclist was hit by a trailer truck in Liaquatabad. Police said the victim was struck while riding on the Sharea Pakistan flyover and later died from his injuries at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The driver involved in this accident has also been arrested, and charges have been filed. Statistics show a significant rise in road accidents in Karachi. In 2024, nearly 500 people were killed and almost 5,000 were injured in such incidents. Factors behind these accidents include reckless driving and ongoing construction work in the city.
