Modern Shakespeare boosts confidence in special needs students
Students with special educational needs are gaining confidence through modern interpretations of Shakespeare. Schools like Greenfields and Northgate are participating in the Coram Shakespeare Schools Theatre Festival, which focuses on using drama to enhance social and emotional skills. Teachers report significant improvements in students' self-esteem and communication abilities. Many pupils who struggled to speak five years ago are now performing on stage, showcasing their growth and newfound confidence. The festival has been running for 25 years, engaging over 350,000 young people, including those with special needs. This year, the focus is on reimagining Shakespeare to attract new audiences and encourage participation from all students.
