Mohanlal explains 'Malaikottai Vaaliban' box office failure
Mohanlal has openly discussed the disappointment of his recent film, "Malaikottai Vaaliban," which did not perform well at the box office. He attributes the failure to mistakes made during production and a departure from the original vision of the film. Changes in the film's length and pacing also made it harder for audiences to connect with the story. The film created high expectations because of its director, Lijo Jose Pellissery, and Mohanlal’s new character. However, during production, the team decided to expand the story for a potential sequel. Mohanlal believes this decision backfired, stating that it led to a film that lost focus. He compared it to the planned structure for another film, "Empuraan," which had a clear three-part outline. Mohanlal noted that the film’s execution was not a complete mistake, but it was a significant miscalculation. Its pacing and length contributed to audience disconnect, despite Pellissery’s renowned style. Mohanlal expressed that he is not troubled by the failure, saying, “The failure doesn’t bother me. It happened.” The film’s producer, Shibu Baby John, mentioned that Mohanlal was hurt by the film's underperformance. He clarified that while it didn't meet box office expectations, it was not a total failure. Additionally, there are no plans to create a sequel to "Malaikottai Vaaliban."
