Monkeys chase British tourist in Thailand hotel pool
A British tourist, Kane Smith, shared a frightening experience from Thailand when he was chased by monkeys while relaxing in a hotel pool. He posted a video on TikTok on March 19, showing the moment the monkeys surrounded him. Smith started his day peacefully in the pool on Koh Samui, an island known for its beauty and as a filming location for the show "The White Lotus." However, he soon found himself facing a group of macaque monkeys that emerged from nearby woods. As the monkeys approached, he retraced his steps in the pool, expressing his fear with exclamations like, "Oh my f---ing god," and "Don't come near me." The situation escalated quickly. More monkeys appeared, including one carrying a baby, and they began drinking pool water. Realizing he needed to escape, Smith leaped out of the pool, only to be pursued by the monkeys. They halted when he shouted at them loudly. In his initial post, Smith described the incident as "the scariest moment of my life." However, in a follow-up video, he reassured viewers that he was safe and had moved to a beachfront location. He recounted how, after fleeing the pool, he jumped into an empty room to find refuge. Smith explained that while he was enjoying the views before the encounter, he hadn’t left the pool earlier because the monkeys were blocking the main exit. Thailand is home to many wild monkeys, and efforts to control their population have had limited success.
